Club History

2013

FC Stumbras is a professional football club, based in Kaunas, Lithuania and currently playing in A lyga, the top tier of Lithuanian football system.

Founded in 2013 and played in LFF II division Pietų zona during the first season. Team was made mostly from very young local players with most of them not older then 20 years. Despite of this, the young age of the players were not a problem as FC Stumbras finished first and was promoted to LFF Pirma lyga.

2014

In 2014 FC Stumbras signed contracts with a few more experienced players including Lithuanian football star at the time striker Artūras Rimkevičius who is still the record holder of goals scored during one season of A lyga. Rolandas Čepkauskas was awarded with head coach position.

This season was very successful for the team as FC Stumbras finished on top of LFF Pirma lyga and gueranteed protomion to the top division A lyga. Striker Artūras Rimkevičius scored 26 goals and was elected the top scorer and mvp of the league.

2015

It was a special year for FC Stumbras as the club for the first time in history played in top tier of Lithuanian football system A lyga. New head coach Darius Gvildys was appointed, club signed contracts with well known players Nerijus Mačiulis, Tomas Snapkauskas, Martynas Dapkus.

FC Stumbras finished debut season in 7th position between 10 clubs and kept place in A lyga.

2016

This season started with negotiations regarding selling the club to foreign investors. After successful talks FC Stumbras was sold in april and immediately new head coach – well known portuguese coach Mariano Barreto was appointed. He is also one of four FC Stumbras shareholders and the general manager.

New director Richard Walsh from Ireland was appointed as a new director of the club.

FC Stumbras finished A lyga season in the 5th place and it is the best result in the club‘s history. FC Stumbras twice reached LFF Cup semi-final but lost both times.

2017

It was a memorable and exciting year. For the first time in history FC Stumbras won Lithuanian Cup and guaranteed spot in UEFA Europa league qualification in 2018.

LFF Cup final took place in Panevezys and FC Stumbras won 1:0 against FC Zalgiris Vilnius – the club that dominated in Lithuanian football for the last five years winning all possible trophies. Nasro Bouchareb scored the only goal after fantastic Vilius Armanavicius assist.

However everything went much harder in A lyga where Stumbras finished 7th and had to play relegation play-offs against FK Banga Gargzdai who finished second in the First league. FC Stumbras won 2:1 away, 3:0 at home and secured the place in Lithuanian top tier.

In 2017 Stumbras were the youngest team in A lyga with only 22,5 years average.
